It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly event hosted by Sheila to share with others what you’ve read the past week and planning to read next.

Finished

This week, I finished 3 books:

  • Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger, very good, but I didn’t approve of all of it
  • Wie scheep gaat by Racha Peper, in Dutch, great book!
  • Exclusive by Sandra Brown, a good thriller, review to follow

Reading

I’m reading two books:

Planned

I’ve got several books planned for this week:

  • A Gentle Axe by R. N. Morris, historical thriller, for the RIP challenge. Didn’t get round to it last week. A must for this week as the RIP challenge is only until the end of October.
  • Alleen maar nette mensen by Robert Vuijsje, a Dutch book
  • Meltdown by Ben Elton, one of my favorite English writers, humorous, satire.

Acquired

I got one book:

  • By a Spider’s Thread by Laura Lippman. My mother had this on her shelves and I borrowed it as I’ve heard of the writer but never read anything by her.

Other news

  • The eighteenth of the weekly Book Bloggers Abroad guest post was posted: Milka from Finland.
  • I posted a review of Soulless by Gail Carriger, great book!
  • I posted a review of The Passage by Justin Cronin, another great book
  • On Friday, my book club meets up. We’ll be discussing Mr Rosenblum’s List by Natasha Solomons

That’s it! What are YOU reading this week?

  1. Wow you had a great week. I enjoyed your review of Soulless and hope to read that one soon. I am also interested in your review of Sandra Brown’s Exclusive as I use to love her books, and it has been a while since I indulged myself in her mysteries.

    Have a great week!

  2. Kylie Purdie says:

I read your review of Her Fearful Symmetry, but stopped before the spoilers as I haven’t read it yet. Will have to book mark it to come back to when I do!
    Check out my Monday here

Hope you’ll like Her Fearful Symmetry, Kylie. I tried to be careful not to tell too much of the story. Love to know what you think when you’ve read it.

  3. Suzanne says:

I haven’t checked out your review of Her Fearful Symmetry yet but it sounds interesting —

    Have a great week.

  4. Oh, Sandra Brown’s Exclusive is on my wish list. In fact, I’m seriously behind on her books!

    Meltdown piques my interest….

    Hope you enjoy them all.

  5. amcatoir says:

Is Mr. Rosenblum’s List and Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English the same book? Must be one of those things where they change the titles between countries.

    • leeswammes says:

Yes, it is the same book, amcatoir. I don’t know why they found it necessary to have two different titles. Anyway, I don’t find either fitting the book very well. 🙂

  6. So sorry to hear about your leg injury. I hope it’s nothing serious – do take care of yourself.

I’m nursing my left leg this week – but it’s a knot up by my hip so nothing serious. In fact I was successful breaking it last night and today my leg feel 1000% better. 🙂 Helga is a professional quality massage chair, not a person but she might as well be… back home, our friends would greet us and head right over to Helga! Amazing…

I have Mr Rosenblum’s List but it’s titled ‘Mr Rosenblum dream in English’ over here. Another book I hope to read in the next month!

Have a great week by friend 🙂

  7. Esme says:

I am with you-Her Fearful Symmetry I did not enjoy at all-what do you mean when you say you did not approve of it?

  8. Novroz says:

I am reading Under The Dome by my number one author, Stephen King. I surprised myself on how fast I read the book. I’ve told you I’m not a fast reader, but I have reached 1/3 of the book in 1 week 🙂

    • leeswammes says:

I’ve heard of Under the Dome, Novroz, but haven’t read it yet (my mother has it so I will borrow). You’re doing well with the book. It must be really good!

      • Novroz says:

There’s no ghost and monster, less bloody scene…but I can’t put it down or even close my eyes for a moment when I am on the bus…that tells how much I’m enjoying the book.

  9. You sure had a great reading week! I’ve finally finished Pride & Prejudice and getting into Her Fearful Symmetry. I’m on pins & needles about this controversial ending! I don’t expect it to be like The Time Traveler’s Wife (a misconception that disappointed many people, I’ve heard), but it would be nice if I liked it.

    • leeswammes says:

I’m looking forward to hear what you think of HFS, Teacher/Learner. You might well like it a lot, there are enough people that do. There are also many that don’t. 🙂

  10. Aths says:

Just read your review of Her Fearful Symmetry and I had the same thoughts as you – I loved the book, though I didn’t approve of so much in it. It was a very “challenging” book – testing new ideas, probably unethical in a different sense of the word.

I am still reading though The Passage – I love it but it’s taking so much of my time.

    • leeswammes says:

Ah, you’re reading the same books as me, Aths. Unethical is probably the word I should have used, rather than immoral.

I’m sorry The Passage is a bit slow going for you. I read it really quickly. But if you don’t have much time, a 1,000 page book is going to last a long time of course!

  11. Bookjourney says:

The Princess Bride is one I have never read! Enjoy your week!

  12. I didn’t realize The Princess Bride was a book! Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

I love comments! Let me know what you think.
