Literary Giveaway Blog Hop February 19-23
January 24, 2011 39 Comments
The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is an event taking place from Saturday February 19th until (and including) Wednesday February 23th. If you’ve been wanting to give away a book to your readers, maybe to show your appreciation or because you have a special celebration, this is your chance to join up with others.
Isn’t giving better than receiving? I have been wanting to join a giveaway hop, but most seem to be directed towards young adult and romance audiences. As I would like to give away books that are more literary, those hops didn’t seem ideal (but if you’re interested, I Am A Reader Not A Writer runs frequent blog hops).
So, I decided to host my own giveaway hop and I hope you’ll join in!
This event is an opportunity to give away prizes and get more traffic to your blog. You will run your own giveaway, but it will be linked up to all other participants via a Linky Tool (which I will give you just before the event). That way, not just your readers, but also the readers from the other participating blogs will stop by your blog.
You can offer one or more books, a gift voucher (for instance, to amazon or bookdepository), or anything else related to books and reading. There is no minimum or maximum value that your prize should have.
The only restriction is that if you’re giving away a book, is that it should have some literary merit. It does not have to be the most difficult classic ever, but please no romance, supernatural or urban fiction or YA.
Further information on the prizes: a book can be new or “gently read”. Your giveaway can be just for your country, for your continent, or international. Offering a book via bookdepository.com is a good way to make your giveaway international (although not all countries are available) as it offers free postage.
Keep your giveaway simple, don’t add lots of ways for people to gain extra entries (such as follow my blog, follow on Twitter, blog about it, etc.). Keep it to just one or two extra options (or none) or it will be too complicated and readers will move on to the next blog’s giveaway.
Last day for signing up is February 18th. Only sign up if you intend to have a giveaway post up on your blog on February 19th.
Take the code below to put the button on your blog (e.g., in your sidebar and/or in a blog post), so you can advertise the Blog Hop and attract more participants to make this a big event (alternatively, you can download the picture above).

I have never hosted a blog hop before so we’ll see how it goes. Four blogging friends have already indicated that they will take part but we need a good number of participants or there’s not much hopping that can be done!
I”ll add your blog to the list with links below once I’ve seen that you’ve filled out the form.
If you have questions, just ask in the comments, or email me at jh303015 at gmail dot com.
Have a look at the list below to see who has entered so far. I will enter your name, when you’ve filled out the form (see link above, valid until February 18th).

I’m definitely in! Am thinking of doing my own giveaway also – called ‘the great big pregnant lady giveaway – need space on my shelves for all the baby information! Thank you for organising this, great idea.
Ha ha, that sounds fun!
It’s great you’re joining the blog hop, Tea!
I’m in!!! 🙂
Hurray! Good to have you.
I could give away some self made bookmarks and combine my love for books with my creativity. That is if that is acceptable. I want to experiment with making these anyway, so this could be a good drive to do that 🙂
That would be nice, Uniflame – if you make sure they’re ready before you post your giveaway, so you can show people what they can get (as not everyone has the same taste). But that would be lovely! Do enter.
I was planning to make a few sets of 3 and make pictures 🙂
Sounds great! I love bookmarks!!! Can I enter, too? 🙂
Do fill out the form – I need to make a linky list and will add everyone that’s on the form. Then other people can see who has joined so far.
Definitely count me in. This is a fun idea, Judith. I will fill out the form later.
Great to have you, Rikki. I loved the book I won from you last year! 🙂
I would love to participate! I will be in Australia through the 20th but will have online access so this shouldn’t be an issue (and write the post before I leave). I think I will even pick up a surprise book (or bookish item) for the winner while I’m there.
I need to write my final post for Bloggiesta today to so I have a few ‘hang over’ items.
Great idea!
Mari, wonderful you’re joining in! An Aussie pressie would be really nice.
I’m in…so excited that this is your first time hosting a blog hop! I’ve never hosted either. Very Excited! Hope you had a great Bloggiesta…we were moving so I was so sad not to get to participate this time!
Nice that you’re joining in, Courtney!
What a pity you couldn’t join Bloggiesta, but moving houses is very special, hope it all went well and you’re not exhausted.

Great to have you join in, Elizabeth. I will add your name to the list. It does not appear automatically.
It also says the linky is closed.
I guess I missed the deadline.
No, Elizabeth, you’re fine! Just read the last bit of the post. It says the linky isn’t really closed. 🙂 I’ll add your name to it in a little while.
I just completed my form. So excited. This is my first every blog hop! Thanks
It’s very nice you’re joining in, Jilleen!
