Welcome!
Welcome to the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop!
The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is hosted by me, Leeswammes. Between now and Wednesday, February 23rd, you can hop to 30 different book blogs, all offering one or more giveaways of books or bookish items. All books will be literary (non)fiction or something close to that. Follow the links at the bottom of this post to find the other participating blogs.
Giveaways are either International (Int), meaning people from most or all countries of the world can enter, or limited to a particular country (e.g., USA). Behind each participant’s link you can see which countries are included.
My Giveaway
As part of the blog hop I will be giving away 3 books. Two books are open for worldwide entries and one is for The Netherlands only.
I read and review contemporary and literary fiction, historical fiction, dystopia, and sometimes also chick-lit and thrillers. But I’m also reading more and more non fiction. Today, I’m giving away one non fiction book and two mysteries (2 copies of the same book).
Giveaway 1
This giveaway is open WORLDWIDE
I Is An Other by James Geary (non fiction, ARC, gently read)
Subtitled: The Secret Life of Metaphor and How It Shapes the Way We See the World.
A metaphor is used when you use unrelated words to describe something. For instance, “My job is a jail” or “She had a bright idea”. A job isn’t literally a jail and an idea can’t emit light.
The psychology behind using metaphors is explained for various areas of our life, such as advertisements, science, innovation, stock market and politics. There is also a chapter on Aspergers and metaphors. Easy to read, full of great insights. My review is HERE.
Giveaway 2
This giveaway is for 2 copies of the same book. One WORLDWIDE and the other Netherlands only.
Tourquai by Tim Davys (fiction, ARC, worldwide copy is brand new, Netherlands copy is gently read)
Tourquai is a classic mystery in a town that only has stuffed animals (there is no mention of humans, at all). When the body of Oswald Vulture is found, minus head, several police officers try and find the killer. However, finding the head would also be useful, as it may be sewed on again, depending on its state. I loved it!
The rules:
- Anyone can enter. You do not need to have a blog.
- I’m sending out the books myself so the only thing you need is a post-office recognised address where you can receive packages.
- You do not have to be a follower or become a follower, although if you like my blog I hope you will! You can follow by email or by RSS (see buttons in the side bar on the right).
- Fill out the form below and select which giveaway(s) you want to enter for.
- You can enter the giveaways until February 23rd. I will close the giveaways when I turn on my computer on February 24th (Netherlands time).
- Note that double or invalid entries will be removed.
- I will notify the winners by email. The winners need to answer my email within 3 days, or I’ll announce a new winner.
- That’s it! Good luck and thanks for playing.
Fill out the FORM HERE to enter.
The giveaway is now closed. Winners will be announced soon.

I love the books you chose, they both seem like books I’d like to read 🙂
Chinoiseries, glad you like my selection. They were two books that I read recently and loved. So it wasn’t a hard choice to give these away – except that I won’t have copies for myself anymore. But I have so many books, I can’t re-read them all anyway. 🙂

It looks like I’m too late to officially sign-up, but I’m joining in anyway. I’m giving away one copy of Wilkie Collins’s, The Woman in White.
Thanks for hosting this. I needed an extra little kick to get back to hosting giveaways.

I’ll add you to my link list James. It’s really nice you want to join in!
The Woman in White is a great book – hope you get a lot of visitors (I own the book so won’t enter).
Thank you for offering this contest. I also adore your blog. I really like the layout, it is not too much or too sparse. So many sites are overwhelming with information.
Thanks, Jennifer. I try to keep my blog layout simple.
Hope you found some books in the blog hop that you want to enter for. Have fun!
Thanks for the giveaway and for making it international!
My pleasure, Diana. It’s great fun to do this giveaway.
What a lovely idea of a literary giveaway and bloghop. I just love it and can’t wait to see all the other books on the other blogs. Thank you for hosting it!
Hope you had fun checking out the blogs, Carola!
Thanks for hosting this blog hop and giveaway. It looks like a great success.

Judith, you had two blogs that were starting Saturday evening and I completed all except them. I came back to peek at them now but you took off the “late Saturday” part so now I do not recall the second one that I did not visit. Could you tell me what the second late starting blog was again please?
Thanks 🙂
AH, Sheila, yes! One was Bookworm with a view, and the other was Graasland. Glad to see you want your full hopping experience! Aren’t they great book on offer? I’m having such a great time with it!
Thanks Judith 🙂 I did not want to miss a thing – such great titles and fun to see blogs I have not visited before 🙂
Will you be doing this again somewhere this year?
i couldn’t join this one due to so many things to fix…but so looking forward to do this somewhere in June
I was thinking more August/September, Novroz. I must check what big events are going on in the blogging world between June and September and make sure the Hop is not in the way. But yes, I’d love to do this again!
A psycholinguist? (Did I get that right? It’s saying I spelled it wrong!) That sounds fascinating! I love the spoken and written word, “play on word”, word origin, grammar and the like! Thanks for the giveaway!
Yes, you got that right, nfmgirl! Thanks for entering the giveaway.
I didn’t think I had time to read “I is an Other” for review so didn’t request it from Netgalley. Your review though made me wish that I had. Tourquai sounds quite amusing. Thanks for the giveaway.
Thank you so much for the chance
I subscribed to your blog via google reader
I have never seen those book above.
I hope I get a chance to read it
Hi Aleetha, welcome on my blog! The books have only been published this month so are very new. Good luck!
