Joining the R. I. P. Challenge

I’m joining the R. I. P. VI Challenge! That stands for Readers Imbibing Peril. It’s hosted by Stainless Steel Droppings. I joined in last year and it was great fun!
The challenge runs for the next two months, between September 1st and October 31st. Participants should read novels (or watch movies) in the following categories:
Mystery.
Suspense.
Thriller.
Dark Fantasy.
Gothic.
Horror.
Supernatural.
As I’m a fast reader, and I have enough reading material left on the shelves to fulfill the criteria, I will go for the highest level, which is that of Peril the First.
For the Peril the First level, you’re required to read four books that fit the definition of scary. I’m going to read the following:
- Taboo by Casey Hill
- The Cosy Knave by Dorte Hummelshoj Jakobsen
- What To Do When Someone Dies by Nicci French
- The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas
I’m looking forward to reading these.
Over 80 people have signed up for this challenge so far. How about you? You can read 1, 2 or 4 books, or watch one or more scary movies. Isn’t it nice to be scared sometimes?

Ooh nice. Haven’t heard of this challenge I love it I’m joining in. Love to read ‘scary’ books. And have a lot on my to read list so it shouldn’t be a problem to do four books.
I got Taboo too that one sounds great and is quite high on my to read to list.
Nice that you’re joining in too, Kim! I think Taboo will be my first book, hopefully next week as I’m really ready for a thriller, it’s been a while.

I love to be scared, and I like reading creeping, gothic, scary books..they just have to be the right type of scary, I’m not easily scared, so I’ll be looking out for your reviews, and maybe I’ll be adding some more good books to my wishlist 😉
Louise, I don’t actually think all these books are very scary, but who knows? My recent Stephen King book (Duma Key) was a disappointment so I’d love a nice and scary read.

I’ll give this one a pass this time. I participated last year with one short story (I don’t like being scared too much). But I am already behind with everything, so I can’t do one more challenge with a good conscience.

This does look like fun. I started listening to The Lantern yesterday so there’s one, and I’m sure I could squeeze in another mystery by the end of October.

Great idea & love your choice of books. Will be interested to see what you think. Of the three you’ve picked that I’ve read I’d have to put the Nicci French top.
Nicci French has been on my shelves since the beginning of the year, Suzi, and I never seem to get round to it. So this is the ideal time to finally read it.

I was looking at The End of Mr Y and wondering whether to read it, so I shall be very interested to read what you think. My own short list is rather long, I like to be able to change my mind 😉

I am so excited to join this challenge! I’m horrible with keeping my commitments to challenges, but I’m ready for this one! Looking forward to the books you’ll be reading/sharing – I love scary books and am always looking for more.
This is a great challenge – the hardest part is deciding what to read. I read Taboo last week – enjoy!

Noooo! No more books! LOL My TBR list is already 1,000’s of books long. (Seriously. It’s part of the reason my Goodreads account is private. It’s almost embarrassing.) So, I’m not doing this formally, but I just agreed to review Dreams & Nightscapes by Ann Werner, so there’s my one thriller. LOL
Amanda, I’ve heard of a blogger with over 2,500 unread books in their house. You’re definitely not the worst. Hope the book is good- I haven’t heard of it, I guess it’s very new.

No more challenges for me this year. I am in over my head already…
And I am thrilled that you are going to read my book for this challenge, but honestly, if you are scared by that one, I think the others may be a bit too much for you ;D
Ha ha, Dorte, I don’t think you’ll book will be very scary but it fits “mystery”, so that’s OK. I’m hoping it really *is* a cosy mystery so nothing scary.

You have some interesting titles there Judith. I’ve only read The End of Mr. Y which I loved so I hope you enjoy it! This is one of my favourite challenges and it makes the darkening days a little more bearable!
