Ugly Covers Competition – Week 2

Ugly Covers Competition at Leeswammes' Blog

It’s week 2 of the Ugly Covers Competition! Did you enjoy last week’s covers? If this is the first you hear about it, you are very welcome to join in the fun!

Presenting: 6 ugly covers!

Here is how it works:

  1. A number of my blog readers have sent in pictures of ugly covers (thanks!).
  2. 6 of these are presented here today.
  3. Choose the cover you find most ugly (cover 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6).
  4. Fill out the form.

Below the form is information about the books and the people that submitted them, as well as some further information about the competition.

Covers 1, 2, and 3:

Covers 4, 5, and 6:

Remember the cover number and fill out this FORM to cast your vote. (You can hover over the book covers to see their cover number).

Further information about the books

Cover 1 – Morbito: Guardian of the Spirit by Nahoko Uehashi. Sent in by Novia of Polychrome Interest. She says: “I don’t like this cover because it lacks creativity. The cover is just an edited picture from the anime…no originality AT ALL.”

Cover 2 – Crime of the Century: The Lindbergh Kidnapping Hoax by Gregory Algren and Stephen Monter. Sent in by Jordyn of Ten Cent Notes. She says “I’m about 98% sure this is the book I read on the Lindbergh kidnapping when I was in fifth grade, though I could be wrong. The cover looks familiar and horrible. It kind of hurts to look at it.”

Cover 3 – Lies of Silence by Brian Moore. Sent in by Nadine of The Books of Life. I read this book years ago and thought it was very good. 4 stars.

Cover 4 – Shampoo Planet by Douglas Coupland. Submitted by Leeswammes. I say: “I read it and enjoyed it! I wasn’t captivated. Not Coupland’s best book. 3 stars.”

Cover 5 – The End Of My Tether by Neil Astley. Sent in by Gary of Parrish Lantern.

Cover 6 – Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse. Sent in by Anna of Anna’s Leesreis. She says: “This cover (wrongly) suggests soft-porn and it’s very ugly.”

Thanks for your contributions, everyone!

Last week: The results!

Further information about the competition

Each week for 6 weeks, I will show you 6 covers and you have to choose the ugliest one. Every week there will be one winning cover (in case of a draw, I will have the final say). The seventh week, we’ll have the 6 winning covers back, and the most ugly, absolutely impossibly awful cover will win the competition. This book will have the questionable honor of being the ugliest book we know of.

Your task is to vote for the ugliest cover each week. Of all participants who chose the final, winning, cover in one of the first 6 rounds, one will win a book of their choice. Hopefully one of the books displayed will suit you (an awful cover doesn’t mean an awful book), and otherwise, you can choose any other book from the Book Depository (or other solution if the BD doesn’t deliver in your country) up to a maximum value.

I can still use ugly covers, so please look on your shelves and send in the most awful one(s): jh303015 at gmail dot com.

Do fill out the form! Anyone can enter!

Psst! Is there a cover here that you secretly like?

  1. Louise says:

I’m spoilt for choice this week, they’re all pretty ghastly! The cover with the cow, I think is the best of the bunch😉

  2. Cindy says:

Oh my … they are all soooooo horrible … bwahaha, this is fun!

  3. winstonsdad says:

Shampoo planet I think Judith I ve same copy odd his other covers quite iconic all the best stu

  4. Mrs.B. says:

Shampoo planet looks ugly and gross. I actually don’t mind the Lies of Silence cover. It looks like a mysterious book.

  5. I actually rather like #4, and #3 isn’t too bad. #1 looks like others from that genre, and #6 just looks pretty typical for the time period – late 70s or early 80s, I’d guess. #5 is odd, but not “ugly.” #2, though- goodness gracious! Is it self-published? Because it certainly looks like it is. And, agh, that font, agh!

  6. Novroz says:

Haha number 1 from last week was a knock off😉

Ah mine is here…hmm the others are also bad…hard to choose, last week was much easier

  7. This week is really tough – apart from the cow, which has a certain charm, they are dead ugly.

  8. I quite like the cow. The shampoo one is awful, I keep wanting to wipe it!

  9. Esme says:

These covers are quite ugly. You know how to find them.

  10. Marce says:

These covers are terrible. I see people really don’t go for the nudity, soft porn likes, lol

I love comments! Let me know what you think.
