Mid-Winter’s Eve Giveaway Hop

Mid-winter's Eve Giveaway Hop

The Mid-Winter’s Eve Blog Hop runs from December 21st until December 27th and is hosted by I Am A Reader Not A Writer and Oasis for YA. All participating blogs (over 200!) are giving away a book, a book voucher, or something else book-related.

If you’re new here: welcome to my blog! I read contemporary fiction, a bit of chick-lit, some thrillers and science fiction, and whatever I can get my hands on. To enter my giveaway you do not have to be a follower, although if you like my blog, please consider following by email or RSS.

My giveaway is via Book Depository so if they deliver to your country, you can enter (check here).

One winner can choose one paperback book from the following selection, some of my favorite books (click on the picture for my review):

The Sandalwood Tree by Elle NewmarkGood to a Fault by Marina EndicottThe Radleys by Matt HaigThe Passage by Justin Cronin

  • The Sandalwood Tree by Elle Newmark. Historical fiction.  A wonderful, atmospheric story about an American woman moving to India in 1947 with her family who finds some old letters of the previous occupants of her house.
  • Good to a Fault by Marina Endicott. Contemporary fiction. A woman who drives into a homeless family’s car takes them in after the mother of the family has to spend some time in hospital.
  • The Radleys by Matt Haig. Contemporary fiction with a vampire twist. A vampire family lives a middle class village life in England. The two children don’t even know they’re vampires, until a bloody event happens….
  • The Passage by Justin Cronin. Post-apocalyptic fiction. After some modified humans escape a laboratory, no-one’s life is safe any more. These creatures kill or infect any one in their way and the civilization as we know it collapses.

To win the book of your choice

  1. Required: let me know in the comments which book you’d like to win and why you think you’ll like this book. Your entry only counts if you do exactly that.
  2. Get another entry by tweeting about the giveaway. Paste the link in your comment (or in a new comment) – if you don’t know how to do that, make sure you use “@leeswammes” in your tweet and I’ll find it back (do mention in the comments that you tweeted).
  3. Maximum of 2 entries per person (one comment, one tweet).
  4. Anyone can enter, as long as the bookdepository delivers to you.
  5. You do not have to be a follower of this blog, but don’t let me stop you pressing the RSS or Email button!

  26. Chris says:

Happy Mid-Winter, Judith! Thanks for having this giveaway.

I have to read THE PASSAGE because I listened to the abridged version last October so missed large sections. Have to be up to speed when THE TWELVE comes out. Althoug,h THE RADLEYS also sounds excellent.

I love how you can click on the book cover to go to the review. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do that as well. Would you be willing to share some of your secrets?

    Thanks again!

    Chris
    nerfreader at gmail dot com

    • Leeswammes says:

Chris, I don’t see the use of abridged audio books really. I’m looking forward to the sequel to The Passage too.

Your question: in wordpress, when you add a picture to your blogpost you can specify a URL. Standard, this is already filled in and links to the jpg of the picture, but you can change this to anything you like. You didn’t leave your blog address so I don’t know if you have wordpress, too.

  27. kay swederski says:

Thanks for the nice giveaway. I would like Good to a Fault or The Sandlewood Tree. Both sound like books I would enjoy. Merry Christmas!

  29. Sher A Hart says:

I’d like to win the Passage because I’m a total fantasy/SF nut. You can get humor, mystery, adventure, romance, etc, along with the mental stimulation. Anything without the fantastic elements bores me. Here’s my tweet: https://twitter.com/#!/SherAHart/status/149665566725115905

  30. neer says:

Thanks for the giveaway. I would love to have The Sandalwood Tree as it is set in my part of the world. I love historical fiction and am intrigued by the fact why would anyone want to come to India in 1947. It was the year of great happiness (the independence) but also great tragedy (the partition). I lalso ove bboks where the past seems to co-exist with the present.

    Merry X’Mas.

  31. shelleyrae @ Book'd Out says:

The Radleys has been on my wish list since you first posted your review. Not only the premise appealed but you spoke so well of it and I trust your judgement

I would love the passage. Dystopian future novels are my fav. They so often show how power and fear of the unknown corrupt society.
    deanna_boocock@hotmail.com

  33. The Radleys by Matt Haig. It has vampires, looks like a mystery, probably has a ‘twist’ in it. Sounds like my type of holiday read! 🙂

  34. carol says:

    What a lovely giveaway.

I would love to read The Sandlewood Tree. I know it had good reviews on the blogs this year. I love historical fiction and am quite partial to stories that include letters or diaries.

    carol

  35. Bex says:

I’d love to win The Passage because people have been saying great things about it for a while and because it sounds kind of like the film 28 days later, which I love! 🙂

  36. Yay! Christmas! I’d really like to read The Radleys since they made it sound so good on The TV Book Club. Thanks for the giveaway!

I also tweeted this but can’t remember how to do the link thing.

  37. hadashi says:

I’d like to try for The Passage. Lately the apocalyptic zombie theme has arisen on the C-Realm and the Arch Druid Report, a podcast site and a blog that I follow. The topic would be a new one for me to dip into, but having recently moved to Japan to live, and coped easily, I reckon I could handle it! BTW, Lee, your review seems to be miss-linked to The Radleys

    • Leeswammes says:

Thanks for entering Hadashi. The Passage is a great book even if I’m not a zombie/vampire lover.

Thanks for pointing out the problem with the link. I ‘repaired’ it.

  38. debbie says:

  44. Good to a Fault sounds like a heartwarming tale. Good reason to read, I think.

  45. Niranjana says:

Oh, I’d like the Sandalwood Tree. Because so much fiction set in India stereotypes and exoticizes the country, but this one sounds different from your review.

  46. JannyAn says:

I’d like to win The Radleys. You rated the book with 5 stars. That’s one reason. But I’ve read some vampire books last year and I really do like it. So….vingers crossed

Forgot to mention, but I tweeted this giveaway also 🙂

    Thanks for the giveaway!! 🙂

  54. I completely missed this midwinter’s eve giveaway hop! Glad I made it in time 🙂 I’d love to read The Passage, as you gave it 5/5 stars and it’s a dystopian look at vampires, closer to literary fiction than YA (which I tend to avoid). I think it’s on my to-read list somewhere, but I definitely have considered getting this one.

  55. I would like The Radleys… I like to read anything with vampires so I am sure I will like this one…

  56. Thanks for the giveaway! Id like to win The Passage, because I like books with themes like the apocalipse, viruses, infected people infecting other people… well, you get the point! haha

Thanks for having a cool giveaway. I have been thinking hard for 2 minutes and 34 seconds. The Sandalwood Tree intrigues me because it is historical fiction set in India – a story where one culture is stuck into another.
