Weekly Reading Roundup

The week
Nothing much happened last week. I did read a bit more than the few weeks before, so that’s nice. But some nights I worked until 10.30, writing emails to customers and other small jobs like that. Getting customers to take my (editing) services takes a lot of time, but so far, about 80% of people who contact me take up my services or say they are planning to do so when their book is ready to be edited.
I made some arrangements for my mother – she’s moving to an old people’s home this coming weekend, so there is a lot to sort out. She sometimes doesn’t remember what she did 20 seconds ago, so it’s handy that my brother and me sort out most of the stuff.
Ah, and the challenge on my Dutch blog, reached 500 reviews this week! It’s about reading books by Dutch writers for a change (we do like our translated English writers a lot, you see).
Books I finished in the last week: 4
Etched in Sand by Regina Calcaterra. The real-life story of the author, who grew up in a family of abused and neglected children. 4 stars
The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Makler. Two teenagers in 1996 accidentally get into the Facebook of 2011. They find out about their own future and try to change it. 4 stars
De inwijding [The Initiation] by Tess Franke (Dutch). A female laywer gets a hard time when the body of one of her clients is found on her doorstep. Thriller, 4 stars
Vallen als het heet [Falling When it’s Hot] is by Jelmer Jepsen (Dutch). A man accompagnies his estranged mother to visit her mother in France. 4 stars
Books I’m reading & planning to read
So far, I’ve found The Whole Golden World a bit boring, and MacBeth impossible!
Reviews
The Circle by Dave Eggers. A young woman starts working at The Circle, an internet company that wants to connect all information from everyone on the planet in one big system. 5 stars
The Reluctant Cannibals by Ian Flitcroft. Oxford University has a secret dining society who are always trying new recipes. But now one of the members wants to try something quite unusual… 4.5 stars

I hope your mom’s move goes well, I am sure it is a stressful situation for everyone.
Thanks, Suzanne. We moved her today and it was very chaotic, but she’s fine now – more or less everything is in place.
Yay for all the work!! Hope your mom will like her new spot. It is never easy I think moving to a facility like that 🙂 good luck with making all the arrangements.

I finished Lemon Cake, Ciska. Now I have to (keep) remember(ing) what it is about. It was a fun read.
