Literary Blog Hop June

Welcome!

Welcome to the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop!

The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is hosted by me, Leeswammes. Between now and Wednesday, June 26th, you can hop to 40+different book blogs, all offering one or more giveaways of books or bookish items. All books will be literary (non)fiction or something close to that. Follow the links at the bottom of this post to find the other participating blogs.

My Giveaway

The First Book of Calamity Leek by Paula LichtarowiczAs part of the blog hop I will be giving away The First Book of Calamity Leek by Paula Lichtarowicz, which is one of my favorite reads from this year so far. Check my review HERE. Entries are open worldwide where the Book Depository delivers.

When you start this book, you have no idea which way the story will go. I just couldn’t decide whether what I was reading was in the past, in a post-apocalyptic future, or maybe only in the mind of the main character, Calamity Leek. Or was Calamity living in some kind of Wonderland? It was hard to make up my mind.

She’s living on a kind of farm with her 12 stepsisters and Aunty, who looks after them. They work in a garden with a wall around it, which they are not to leave, as on the other side of the wall are injuns and demonmales. The sisters are being trained so they can go off and fight the demonmales when they’re older.

How weird is this? If you’re not convinced, this is very good literary fiction and definitely worth a read.

That sounds very interesting! I’m a big fan of unreliable narrators, and this sounds similar in that it makes the reader question what’s really going on and reevaluate what’s been told.
