Announcement: Literary Giveaway Blog Hop (June 25-29)

The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is an event taking place from Saturday June 25th until (and including) Wednesday June 29th. If you’ve been wanting to give away a book to your readers, maybe to show your appreciation or because you have a special celebration, this is your chance to join up with others.

Update 24th June

Please note:

Isn’t giving better than receiving? Most give away blog hops seem to be directed towards young adult and romance audiences. Those hops are not so ideal if you want to give away more literary books (but if you’re interested, I Am A Reader Not A Writer runs frequent blog hops).

In February I ran the first Literary Giveaway Blog Hop, which was a great success. So, it’s time for a second one and I hope you’ll join in.

More details:

This event is an opportunity to give away prizes and get more traffic to your blog. You will run your own giveaway, but it will be linked up to all other participants via a links list (which I will give you just before the event). That way, not just your readers, but also the readers from the other participating blogs will stop by your blog.

You can offer one or more books, a gift voucher (for instance, to amazon or bookdepository), or anything else related to books and reading. There is no minimum or maximum value that your prize should have.

The only restriction is that if you’re giving away a book, is that it should have some literary merit. It does not have to be the most difficult classic ever, but please no romance, supernatural or urban fiction or YA.

Further information on the prizes: a book can be new or “gently read”. Your giveaway can be just for your country, for your continent, or international. Offering a book via bookdepository.com is a good way to make your giveaway international (although not all countries are available) as it offers free postage.

Keep your giveaway simple, don’t add lots of ways for people to gain extra entries (such as follow my blog, follow on Twitter, blog about it, etc.). Keep it to just one or two extra options (or none) or it will be too complicated and readers will move on to the next blog in the hop.

Last day for signing up is June 22nd. Only sign up if you intend to have a giveaway post up on your blog on June 25th.

  1. Cindy says:

A lovely idea, but – as you know – I got a big fright this week at the cost of our postal service.

    • Leeswammes says:

Yes, that sounded ridiculous. If you wanted to join in, maybe you could choose a book that you are willing to order via bookdepository.com? Their prices are not bad and they offer free postage to many places in the world.

  2. I loved doing the last one so I’m in again! 🙂

  3. Uniflame says:

I am in again 🙂 But I am thinking of giving away Moonface so another reader can enjoy this 🙂 But it is a romance, so is it allowed?

    • Leeswammes says:

      Uniflame, it’s a non-fiction and it’s not a “romance” novel. I’m saying it counts! 🙂

Nice to have you joining in again. It’s fun to share books with others.

      • Uniflame says:

Lucky that the book isn’t too heavy and fits in the mailbox 🙂 Int shipping is only 5,70 which is less than the books I give away from the book depository 🙂 I thought shipping would cost way more!

      • Leeswammes says:

Yes with a light book the price is quite good.

  4. Kristi says:

I’m in! Thanks for organizing this. I think I’m going to go the book depository route to minimize the shipping cost.

    • Leeswammes says:

Kristi, unless you have a book at home that you want to share with others, bookdepository is a good option. Actually, you could make people choose between some books that you yourself loved and then order one from BD for them. Or you could leave it open….

  5. I’m in! 🙂

My husband is fired though – I gave him the books for the last winner and he brought them home last week!…. so my winner is just receiving her books…. ugh. Next time I will send.

    • Leeswammes says:

Indeed! Your husband can’t be trusted to post a package. My motto: if you want something done, do it yourself. On the other hand, it’s nice if someone else does it for you! 🙂

      • Nish says:

I need to fire my husband too. He goofed up with the postage to Australia, and just 2 weeks back, I got a ratty old package coming back to me. It’s been months!!! I need to resend that book again, and this time I’m doing it myself. Grrr.

Btw, the giveaway post needs to be up only on the 25th, right? Want to do my scheduling right this time around 😀

      • Leeswammes says:

Nish, husbands! {rolls eyes} Yes, the post is for the 25th (at 12night your time will be fine). I’ll send an email with the links to the other participants tomorrow.

  6. Suzanne says:

Thanks once again for hosting — count me in!

  7. Definitely in again. Thank you for putting this together Judith!

  8. Misha says:

I could not participate last time. This time I am definitely in..
    Thank you for hosting!

  10. I would love to do this Judith, it’s such a wonderful idea! But I’m due to give birth on the 30th of June and it’s all so unpredictable I don’t want to commit to something like this and then not deliver (ha ha just noticed that involuntary pun!). Hopefully next time though! 🙂

  11. I’m in again! Perfect to celebrate my birthday on the 30th.

  12. parrish says:

As already stated I’m joining & am looking forward to posting on it.

  13. Can’t wait to do this again! Thank you for keeping this going. I had such a great response in February.

  14. Joy says:

Sounds good. I’ve filled in the form.

  15. tanabata says:

I’m in! I couldn’t join in last time but am looking forward to this time around. Thanks for organizing it.

I’ve signed up.Thanks for reminding me. I look forward to it.

  18. Audra says:

This looks like such fun and I wanted to join in but I’m out of town for a work conference the 21st through the 30th. I anticipate having internet but probably shouldn’t commit to a hop when I won’t have regular internet access. 😦 Hope you do another — I love the idea of a lit hop!

  19. Corri says:

Does it HAVE to be 25th June? I’m on holiday and not sure of internet access. Am sure I can arrange something around that time but cannot guarantee 25th. Should I keep away?! Love the idea. By the way: Corri = Seachanges (on 51 Stories).

    • Leeswammes says:

I’d love you to join in Corri! Can you schedule a post that goes live on the 25th? That would be best. It’s a pity if your followers read that there is this give away blog hop but when they want to hop, there are no other posts up yet. On the other hand, if you post early, maybe they’ll come back later for the actual blog hop. I don’t mind too much, Corri. It would be nice if you joined in either way.

      • Corri says:

Yes, count me in – I’ll prepare something to post on 25th. I’ll try and copy your tags – never quite know how these work.

      • Leeswammes says:

Yay! Glad to have you join in, Corri. Do you mean the button? You can right-click on it and save the picture, if that’s easier than trying to incorporate the html code in your post. See what works best! And have fun with the giveaway!

      • Leeswammes says:

Shall I add you to the links list, then?

  20. Leeswammes says:

We now have 39 entrants and a whole month of signing up to go still! This could be quite a big event (relatively speaking). Last time we had 31 participants.

So, if you don’t want your followers to miss out on the chance to join in (as a giver), consider putting the button on your side bar or doing a small blog post about the event. The more the merrier!

  24. Allison says:

Sending books aren’t expensive if everyone utilizes media mail. I think you can send most books for under $3.

The only thing that kind of puts me on the fence is the restrictions to the kind of books we are allowed to giveaway. I know plenty of YA that have some literary merit. Wouldn’t it be more fun to have a bunch of bloggers giving away a wide variety of books?

Otherwise I have no idea what I would giveaway, although I have plenty of books to giveaway in general.

  25. Rikki says:

Ha, I found a book that fits after all – and it is gently read, at least according to my standards, :). Don’t worry, Judith!

  26. Sandra says:

I’ve signed up a second time-pay no attention to that last one. I’m already on the list, and ready to go. Thanks. I’m giving away an audio version of The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova.

  27. Dear Judith: Please double-check my link; I think it may have auto-filled with an inside page link rather than my home page. I also blogged about this on this week’s This and That post!
