Announcement: Literary Giveaway Blog Hop (February 9-13)

The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is an event taking place from Saturday February 9th until (and including) Wednesday February 13th. If you’re a book blogger and you’d like to give away a book to your readers, maybe to show your appreciation or because you have a special celebration, this is your chance to join up with others.
Most giveaway blog hops seem to be directed towards young adult and romance audiences. Those hops are not so ideal if you want to give away more literary books (but if you’re interested, I Am A Reader Not A Writer runs frequent blog hops).
This will be the seventh Literary Giveaway Blog Hop (there are 3 per year). So far, it’s been a great success, with between 30 and 70 participating blogs every time. It’s time for the next one and I hope you’ll join in. More details:
This event is an opportunity to give away prizes and get more traffic to your blog. You will run your own giveaway, but it will be linked up to all other participants via a links list. That way, not just your readers, but also the readers from the other participating blogs will stop by your blog.
You can offer one or more books, a gift voucher (for instance, to amazon or bookdepository), or anything else related to books and reading. There is no minimum or maximum value that your prize should have.
The only restriction is that if you’re giving away a book, that it should have some literary merit. It does not have to be the most difficult classic ever, but please no romance, urban fiction or YA. Quality thrillers, poetry and non-fiction are fine, as are contemporary fiction, literary fiction and any other genres not in the categories above. If in doubt, please ask!
Further information on the prizes: a book can be new or “gently read”. Your giveaway can be just for your country, for your continent, or word-wide. Offering a book via bookdepository.com is a good way to make your giveaway world-wide (although not all countries are available) as it offers free postage.
Last day for signing up is February 6th. Only sign up if you intend to have a giveaway post up on your blog on February 9th. I will send you an email with more information and the full linky list on February 7th.

Copy the image to put the button on your blog (e.g., in your sidebar and/or in a blog post), so you can advertise the Blog Hop and attract more participants to make this a big event and/or tell your readers about the event coming up.

Would you actually believe that I browsed through your blog yesterday as I feared I might have missed the next sign-up for this hop? You obviously read my thoughts and quickly wrote today’s post, admit it! 😉
Needless to say I am very proud of myself for actually remembering that the next one would be in February *pats herself on shoulder*.
Well, done for remembering, Birgit! *shoulder pat from me too* Maybe I did read your thoughts because yesterday afternoon I suddenly realised that it’s not long until February and thus the blog hop. The blog hop is actually a little earlier in February than normal, but even so, I feel I’m almost a bit late with the announcement – as you did, apparently!
Anyway, I take it you’re taking part… Let me check the form.
Yay! I’m in 🙂
Well, of course I’m participating 🙂
Yes, I would like to participate. This is my first time and I think it’s a wonderful idea.
Yeah!
I’ve just signed up – it will be my first giveaway, really looking forward to getting involved!

I only usually take part in every other Literary Giveaway Blog Hop but this one falls on my birthday (the 9th) so it seems a nice way to celebrate, plus I have a driving test on the 11th- some good karma can’t hurt, right?
I am so glad I stumbled across this post. I’ve never heard about a blog hop before and I am quite in awe of this idea. What an excellent way to support other book blogs 🙂
OrganisedClutter, thanks for joining in. If you’ve never done a blog hop before, don’t hesitate to ask questions, if you’re unsure about some of the procedure. Basically, you provide a gift (for anyone, or for subscribers to your blog, whatever you prefer), you write a blog post about it (and tell people how they can enter to try and win it) and post on Feb 9th. I’ll write a blog post with links to all other participants, and anyone can “hop” to the different participating blogs and enter the giveaway if they qualify.
I hope you’ll find it fun and that you’ll get lots of visitors to your blog. But again, any Qs…. ask!
Oops, I see you’re not joining in. Well, maybe you will… 🙂 No hard feelings if you don’t, though.
I’d like to know what to put on my website, this is my first time and would like to follow protocol. Thanks
Lori, thanks for joining!
Here is an example of a blogpost for a blog hop: https://leeswammes.wordpress.com/2012/06/23/pay-it-forward-giveaway-hop-world-wide/ . It’s not the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop, because I host that so my post looks different from that of the other participants. But generally, your post for the hop should look a bit like this, with the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop button rather than what you see here.
The list with links I will provide after the deadline for signing up has passed. I’ll send it as a HTML code which you can paste into your HTML editor on your blog. I always tell people that if they have no idea how to do that, they can leave it out. The main thing is a link back to my blog, so readers can see the links list there and hop to the next blog.
Let me know if you need any further information at this point. The only stupid question is a question not asked…
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. How many books should I prepare to donate as giveaways? February 9th is an awesome day besides my first Literary Giveaway Blog Hop, it’s my first novel launch and booksigning…I’m thrilled to participate.
Lori, you can give away just one book, or more if you like. It’s all up to you! I guess a signed copy of your book would be a good giveaway (assuming your book fits the genres of this give away).
BTW congrats on your book!
Thank you. My book is fiction full of suspense.
Count me in! Thanks for organizing it!
Looking forward to joining in!
I’m still teetering. We’re looking at a new budget at home and books is one of the line items that we’ve determined we can live without (I cry out HOW?!?! to my husband). 😉
You have another week to consider it, Trish. It would be nice if you joined in!
