Get Read-y For 2012 Challenge

Get read-y for 2012

Get Read-y for 2012 is final challenge for this year to get as many books off your shelves as possible, before the new year starts. This is organised by Loving Books and runs for the whole of December, with weekly check-ins and a giveaway.

The goal is to reduce your to-be-read pile, and especially any review books that you haven’t got round to so you can start 2012 with a more manageable pile of books. More information HERE and sign up HERE on the Mr Linky.

My Plans

I’m not just going to read, I’m also going to sort out some book-related tasks that are long due.

Read off the TBR

  • I have finished all but one of my review books and I think none are due to come in until January (or at least, the reviews are not due until then).
  • I gave up on one challenge, but for two other challenges I’d like to finish one more book.
  • Then, I’d like to read all the books I have that were published this year, 2011. I started doing that in November so there are only a few left.
  • And then there are some other books I’d love to read before the new year.
The book list:
  1. Books from 2011: More Than You Can Say by Paul Torday
  2. Books from 2011: Low Town by Daniel Polansky
  3. Books from 2011: Donderdagskind (Far to Go) by Alison Pick
  4. Books from 2011: A Twitter Year by Kate Bussmann
  5. Books from 2011: Vissen veranderen bij kou van zwemrichting (Fish change swimming direction when cold) by Pierre Szalowski
  6. Books from 2011: Een steek diep (Under the Ground) by F. Starik
  7. TBR Challenge: We by Jevgeni Zamyatin  (DNF)
  8. Japanese Challenge: 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami [Still not got this, reserved at library]
  9. Just because: Don’t Look Now by Daphne Du Maurier
  10. Boekgrrls book of the month: XY by Sandro Veronesi
  11. The Night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian (review book)

It’s definitely do-able, as I read about 12-15 books per month. If I get any more books that were published this year, I’ll add them.

I also read: Little Children by Tom Perrotta; The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesey, Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, Eleven by Mark Watson, Dodelijke hobby [Deadly Hobby] by MPO Books (long short story), Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.

Write reviews

I still have a few reviews to write. Some are of books that are on my Dutch blog (first 5), and I simply need to translate them. Others are only going on the English blog (next 3).

  1. Skippy Dies by Paul Murray
  2. The Trout Opera by Matthew Condon
  3. Fauna by Alissa York
  4. The Ugly Sister by Jane Fallon
  5. My Year With Eleanor by Noelle Hancock
  6. Garden Spells by Sarah Allen
  7. The Centenarian Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
  8. Left Neglected by Lisa Genova
  9. The Night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian
  10. More Than You Can Say by Paul Torday
  11. XY by Sandro Veronesi
  12. Far to Go by Alison Pick
  13. Low Town by Daniel Polansky
  14. A Twitter Year by Kate Bussman
  15. Don’t Look Now by Daphne du Maurier
  16. Vissen veranderen bij kou van zwemrichting (Fish change swimming direction when cold) by Pierre Szalowski
  17. Little Children by Tom Perrotta
  18. The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesey
  19. Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto
  20. Eleven by Mark Watson
  21. Dodelijke hobby [Deadly Hobby] by MPO Books
  22. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
  23. Een steek diep (Under the Ground) by F. Starik

Update review list

ALL DONE: https://leeswammes.wordpress.com/reviews/ On my blog, I keep a list of all reviews I have done. But I think I’m about 50 books or more behind. So, it would be good to update that. In 2012 I’ll start a new list, because the old one is getting rather long.

Update my Shelfari book shelf

According to my Shelfari I Am Reading shelf, I am currently reading 22 books. That’s not true, but I have not updated a lot of books to go to the I Have Read shelf. So, I need to update those.

A lot to do. What about you?

Will you participate?

Oooh I think I will pass on this. I was actually considering the off the shelf challenge for 2012 😉
I think this would make my December month a lot more stressful than it already is 😉 I will just read that one manga that I still need to read to cross off the manga challenge and write some wrap up posts and stuff like that 😉

    • Leeswammes says:

No, no, this challenge is definitely not meant to make life more stressful, Uniflame.

I’m planning to join the Off the Shelf challenge (or a similar one) – I need to!

  2. LOL I could never manage that many books before the end of the year. So NOOOO I definitely will not put any more pressure on my reading by joinig the Get Read-y challenge! 🙂

Currently reading XY and it’s a real page turner so you’ll probably have that read in 1-2 hours… 😉

    Enjoy your reading!

    • Leeswammes says:

1-2 hours for a book, Gnoe? Not bad. 🙂

The get read-y challenge isn’t meant to make you work harder, just to organise you and finish what you wanted to finish this year. But no, you don’t need it, I think. I wish I could be like you, and just read whatever comes along, rather than getting myself mixed up in review books, read-a-longs, etc.

  3. I still intend to finish most of this year’s reading challenges, so I’ll definitely join in! Good luck in reaching your bookish goals this month 🙂

  4. This seems a really nice challenge! I wished I could take part too, but I have examinations next two weeks, so study goes first 😉
    Good Luck with reading!

  5. BookGoddess says:

would like to join in but know that my time is very limit this month… so will skipp this challenge. But good luck! 🙂

  6. Leslie says:

Oh goodness, no way I could get that much done. I have 3 or 4 novels that I want to finish up by the end of the year and a few more reviews to write. If I can do that I’m happy. Then I want to work on my photography a bit. I have some new photography books that I’m eager to get started on. Good luck on your super busy month.

    • Leeswammes says:

Leslie, I haven’t accepted that this is Christmas month. So I think this is just another month in which I can read a lot. 🙂

On the other hand, there is at least a holiday week in there at the end, so maybe I will have the time for all of it.

  7. Vasilly says:

You have some great goals! I’ve just signed up for the challenge. If I can make a sizable dent in my ARCs pile, I’ll be very happy. I’m hoping to read at least 10 ARCs this month. Good luck to you!

  8. I need to do the same… ish. I have read 2/3 of the books I wanted to read in October (Purge is the third), that’s my must read list for the rest of the year. I need a day to sit and update everything from reviews to netgalley. I also need to organize all my books and build stacks of won’t read, will and must read. 🙂

    Good luck with your challenge!

ps: how did you do with the novel writing project?

    • Leeswammes says:

Yes, just sit down for half a day or a day and work on it, Mari, it’ll be done before you know it.

I “won” NaNoWriMo, i.e., I wrote 50,000 words in November. They make some sort of (not quite coherent) story, but need further working on which I hope to do in the coming few months. I see it more as an exercise than a possible published novel, though.
